What Do You Put In Your Protein Shake?

In the past, I’ve tried a combination of add-ins to my protein shakes and smoothies, including:

    • blueberries
    • kale
    • almonds
    • spinach
    • Detox Organics
    • celery
    • strawberries
    • tart cherries
    • carrots
    • chia seeds
    • oatmeal
    • avocado
    • pineapple
    • raw, unsweetened coconut
    • peanut butter
    • exogenous ketones
    • and even dark chocolate just to name a few

    just to name a few.

I’ve added maca powder, raw organic greens, liquid multivitamins, flaxseed, and hemp seed to boost nutrition and health.

I’ve also used raw cow’s milk, filtered water, almond milk and coconut milk, but one of my all-time favorites is this simple, yet delicious peanut butter protein shake. It’s one of my hubby’s favorites too – he probably drinks more of these than I do.

    (Is that even possible?)

    So, let’s do this thing.

    Instructions

    1. Put everything in a Nutribullet or blender and blend it until it’s smooth and creamy.

    Notes

If you’re following a keto eating plan, omit the banana and substitute lower-carb milk such as coconut milk due to the higher carb count. You may want to substitute a handful of frozen strawberries or blueberries instead. They’re full of antioxidants but are fairly low in carbohydrates.
If you’re strictly following a Paleo eating plan you can choose a different nut butter such as almond, cashew, or coconut butter. (Because peanut butter is a legume it’s not considered Paleo-friendly.)
If you have a dairy allergy you can substitute your favorite plant-based milk – coconut, almond, cashew, etc.

Summary – Peanut Butter Protein Shake

As you might have guessed, this is perfect as a meal replacement or post-workout protein shake.

And if you’re living the keto lifestyle and looking for a keto peanut butter shake recipe, simply omit the banana as I do sometimes. Just know that it won’t be as creamy. But, you can thicken it up a bit, and still keep your carb intake low, by adding a few frozen strawberries or blueberries.

Also, if you’re practicing strict Paleo because peanut butter is a legume you’ll want to substitute another nut butter such as almond, cashew, or coconut.
