Are you looking for simple ways to save money? You might consider using free prescription discount cards. I like saving money when shopping for food and other items so when I heard about free prescription discount cards a few years ago it piqued my curiosity. I’m grateful a friend told me about them when I was diagnosed with Lyme. Now I have a few different discount cards that I use.
Though I have insurance, it hasn’t always covered some of my treatments. Unfortunately, this is common when you have chronic Lyme. With the discount cards, I’m often able to get a lower price on some of my prescriptions.
My pharmacist has always been good about checking different cards to see which one will offer the best discount on a prescription.
What Is A Free Prescription Discount Card?
Free prescription discount cards or pharmacy discount cards help you save money on your prescription medications…Which is a good thing because there’s no limit to how much money pharmaceutical companies can charge.
You may have read about them online or in the newspaper. The big question is…
Can You Really Save Money With Prescription Cards?
Yes. A study by Consumer World found that people can save up to 71% off the price of pharmaceuticals. It’s important to mention that the amount saved varies based on the pharmacy, drug, and card being used.
Can You Use Prescription Discount Cards With Insurance?
Anyone can use free prescription discount cards whether you have an insurance plan or not. And, as mentioned above, sometimes insurance won’t cover one of your prescriptions.
Or other times your insurance may offer a discount, but your prescription discount card may still give you a better deal on your medicine. It depends on the card, the pharmacy, and the prescription.
You can use a prescription discount card instead of your insurance and see if it offers you a better price.
How Do You Get Prescription Discount Cards?
There are several discount cards available for free online. You simply fill in your information and they send you the card. Many also allow you to print out a paper copy of your card if you’d like to use it right away.
Prescription Cards: What To Look For
There are a couple of things to look for when you’re choosing prescription discount cards to make sure they’re legitimate.
- Don’t ever pay for one. They are free.
- You can make sure the company providing the card is legit by looking them up on the Better Business Bureau or confirming their business address.

Summary – Free Discount Prescription Cards
Using these cards is just one way you can cut medical costs. And, to me, it’s worth the small amount of effort involved to save money when possible. Just make sure you look into the company first to ensure they’re reputable. There are several good ones out there.
