Weight Loss Challenges And Mom Life
I can relate to the weight loss ups and downs because I’ve experienced them in different seasons of life. Maybe you can too?
After four pregnancies in six years and breastfeeding each baby for a year, my body underwent many changes. Can you relate?
Plus, being a full-time mama to four children under the age of six didn’t leave time for much outside of prepping and cleaning up meals, changing diapers, reading, cuddling, playing with my babies, and caring for their needs 24/7.
And I would do it all over again because my children are precious to me, and I cherish those times we spent together when they were little.
Being intentional about fitness and clean eating was easier when we had our first two, but after that, it became quite a juggling act. Most days, I was happy to get a shower and brush my teeth. Know what I mean?
And a good night’s sleep did not come until later, but who’s counting, right?!
I tried to make time for walks or runs and eat as healthy as possible. But it was a challenge.
Of course, my story is only one of many examples of challenges people face that can make it harder to stay healthy and maintain a healthy weight.
When our children were all in school, I returned to teaching. Working outside the home full-time had its own set of hurdles.
Sometimes you need quick, easy tips to lose weight and help you meet your goals. If you’re trying to lose weight and have plateaued or need a boost on your weight loss journey, here are some proven weight loss tips that can help!
18 Quick Easy Tips To Lose Weight Fast
1. Drink a glass of water before each meal.
Our bodies function more efficiently with plenty of purified water. Drinking water helps with the digestion process. The general advice is to drink 8 8-ounce glasses per day or 2 liters.
But depending on your size and activity level, you might need a slightly different amount.

2. Include protein with your meals and snacks.
Protein can help you lose weight naturally by reducing hunger pangs and boosting your metabolism.

3. Fill up on fiber-rich vegetables, fruits, and other foods.
Eating plenty of fiber fills you up and may decrease your appetite. Examples of high-fiber foods include:
- chia seeds
- acorn squash

4. Get a good night’s sleep.
Did you know that not getting enough sleep can cause you to gain weight? Sleep deprivation disturbs your body’s balance of the hormones leptin and ghrelin. These hormones regulate hunger and fullness.
If you have trouble winding down at night, try taking a hot bath or shower.
How much sleep should you be getting? The average adult needs 7-9 hours of quality sleep per night.
Making sleep a priority helps keep your hormones in check and gives you the energy you need to make healthy choices.

5. Only buy healthy whole food.
Stay away from pre-packaged foods that have a long list of ingredients. A long ingredient list usually means artificial additives, preservatives, and other harmful chemicals that can wreak havoc on your body.

Feeding your body nutritious foods is crucial to any successful weight loss program.
6. Find opportunities to move your body throughout the day.
Being sedentary is linked to many health conditions, including depression, cancer, obesity, high blood pressure, and cardiovascular disease.
Plus, the more you move, the stronger your muscles grow and the more calories you burn. Some examples you can try are:
- taking the stairs instead of the elevator
- parking further away from your destination so you can log extra steps
- doing crunches (or other exercises) while you watch TV
- using a standing desk at work instead of sitting in a chair all day
7. Fill up on healthy soups.
Here are some soup recipes to try. They are satisfying and lower in calories than other options.

8. Eat nuts.
Nuts are a great on-the-go healthy snack and fill you up. The healthy fats in nuts keep you satiated. My personal favorite is pecans. They’re so rich and delicious!
Other healthy options include walnuts, almonds, and pistachios. What’s your favorite nut?

9. Drink your protein.
Whey protein and vegan protein powders have many health benefits and keep you feeling full for a long time. Make sure the brand you choose is all-natural and doesn’t contain harmful sweeteners like Splenda or Aspartame.
Smirk Keto Shake is one of my favorite whey protein powders, and it’s low-carb and keto-friendly. It’s delicious and tastes like chocolate milk. Use my coupon code: LORI10, for 10% off your order.

10. Eat spicy foods.
They can fire up your metabolism, causing you to burn more calories.
Salsa, curry, peppers, horseradish, and many Asian stir-fry recipes contain plenty of heat to spice up your taste buds.
11. Chew your food well before swallowing.
We’ve all heard this before, but it works, so it’s worth repeating. Chewing your food well takes more time which gives your brain time to process feeling full. This allows you to eat what you need but not more.
12. Eat your meals on a small salad plate instead of a typical dinner plate.
If you’re like most Americans, including myself, you tend to load your plate with food. So if your plate is smaller, it makes sense that you’ll eat less because there will be less surface area to fill.
13. Keep a food diary.
Writing down everything you eat makes you more aware of your caloric intake and whether you’re eating enough fiber, protein, and essential vitamins.
But if you don’t want to write it down, there’s a free app that can help. My favorite way to track what I eat in a day is myfitnesspal.com. I use the app on my phone. I also love that it syncs with my Fitbit, so I don’t miss anything important.
14. Avoid white foods, such as white flour, sugar, white bread, and white rice.
They can dramatically alter your blood sugar and cause weight gain.
Instead, focus on fiber-rich whole grains, vegetables, fruit, nuts, and seeds.
15. Drink green tea.
It contains substances that cause fat cells to release fat, especially with exercise. How cool is that? Plus, green tea is so refreshing and delicious! I drink a cup most afternoons.
If that’s not enough, the caffeine and EGCD in green tea can speed up your metabolism.
And did you know that Kombucha is fermented green tea (although it can be made from various other teas too)? I recently learned how to make it and love this flavorful, probiotic-rich tea!

16. Include healthy fat foods in your diet.
This includes grass-fed beef, nuts, coconut, eggs, and avocados.
And don’t worry, studies have proven that (despite what we may have heard for years) eating saturated fat does not make us fat and does not cause heart disease (1).
In case you haven’t heard, a low-fat, high-carb diet is bad for you and has been repeatedly proven ineffective (2, 3).
17. Drink coffee
Coffee speeds up your metabolism and causes you to burn more calories (4). Plus, it tastes incredible!

18. Intermittent Fasting
And my personal favorite, Intermittent fasting (IF), is a simple strategy to boost your weight loss and health in many ways.
I wrote an eBook all about my experience with intermittent fasting. This method allowed me to burn fat, lose weight (effortlessly), and be healthy…without feeling hungry. It even cured my hypoglycemia. If you’d like to learn how I accomplished these great results, you’ll want to check out my book HERE!

Great tips. I would say that making exercises a part of your routine is vitally important. I know it’s hard with everything we have on our daily list, but working out as we get older helps to get rid of that weight even more than our diet.

Love all your weight loss tips. You’ve got lots of really good ones. And I like how you mention that it isn’t necessarily about burning more calories. That’s something that I think is so important for people to get.
Thanks so much, Erica!
I focused on the calorie counting for so long until I realized it’s about so much more than this. I think it’s a common misconception a lot of people are starting to figure out. I’m glad you think it’s important too! Our bodies are such intricate, well-oiled machines.
some great tips here. I didn’t know about spicy food though, I am on a weight loss journey so I will add a little spice to my food too
Thanks, Cecilia! Best wishes on your journey and enjoy that spicy food!
I’ve heard a lot of these things, and adhere to many of them. My problem is that I have no self control when it comes to sweets. Ugh.
Hey Joanna, good for you!
Oh, I hear you about the sweets girl…I have always had a sweet tooth but have had to cut back on sugar in recent years for health reasons. The thing that’s help cut the cravings the most for me is going low-carb or following a ketogenic eating plan. It’s like a miracle for eliminating my cravings for sweets. I still enjoy my daily dark chocolate though. 😉
These are all really great ideas, Like you coming this Nov. I will have 4 six and under. Def. need to make sure to take the time to take care of myself too.
I’m glad you think so – thank you.
And how cool is it that you’ll have four under 6 also? Yes, I know it’s hard to do while caring for so many little ones…but it is so important to take care of yourself! I hope you’re feeling well and the pregnancy is going smoothly. 🙂
