Celebrating D’s Birthday With The Family

If it seems like my favorites always include food that’s because I love to eat. And so does our entire family. So it seemed right to go out to eat at Houlihan’s in Springfield for David’s birthday this past Sunday.

Afterward, we went home to hang out, sing Happy Birthday, and eat chocolate cake. Our four kids were all there (and my daughter’s boyfriend). As our children have grown older the times we spend altogether are rarer and more cherished.

Healthy Instant Pot Recipes For Meal Prep

When you’re learning how to meal prep healthy meals that are cost-effective and delicious an Instant Pot can be your best friend. I love my Instant Pot and use it weekly, especially when I’m meal prepping. It’s a great help when you’re living a keto or paleo lifestyle.

There are several dishes I make on repeat, including:

Here’s a collection of healthful Instant Pot Recipes, if you’re looking for more mealtime inspiration.

I have this 6-quart Instant Pot and it works perfectly for our family’s needs.

But if this one doesn’t quite fit your needs they come in many sizes.

New Smile Brilliant Electric Toothbrush

Smile Brilliant sent me a new electric toothbrush to try out this week. And I’m super excited to announce that they are going to do a giveaway on the site soon, so make sure to check back and watch for future updates in your email and in a blog post.

I’ll be writing a blog review of the toothbrush which is valued at $119 so you can get all the details.

I’ve been using a well-known brand of electric toothbrush for several years now so it’s fun to try something new and different. I can’t wait to see if it gets my teeth as clean as my old spinny toothbrush. What kind of toothbrush do you use?

How To Date Your Spouse Jar

I found this idea on Pinterest and we’re trying it out. So one afternoon we sat down and each came up with ideas for fun activities we could do as a couple, both at home and away.

At least that was the plan. Keep reading to learn what happened…

The ideas could be date night plans or something simple but creative and fun for when we have less time.

We wrote our ideas down on slips of paper, folded them up and put them in a big jar. We didn’t share what we wrote down so it would be a surprise for the other person. And so far it is been quite surprising! David drew the first slip of paper out of the jar and lo and behold it said…

Drum roll, please.

Clean out the garage.

Can we just pause a second and let that soak in?

And let me just say I didn’t write that suggestion down on any of my slips of paper. Hmm. I wonder who that could have been?

Let’s just say that we mutually agreed to put that, uh, “fun” activity to the side and choose another…more fun activity.

The new slip of paper that was drawn said: “dance party” which was one I can fully embrace. You know?

Until David woke up the next day and his back was out of place and he had to go to the chiropractor. Needless to say, the dance party hasn’t happened. Yet. So we’re taking a pause until he feels better.

Reflecting back, I see now that the rules of this game may not have been perfectly clear. lol, Hindsight is 20/20 after all. I’m hoping and praying we don’t draw any more jobs but I have to say I’m kind of worried about it now. Ha

If you wanna give this a go with your significant other (and are brave and prepared for anything, including doing more jobs apparently?) all you need is a jar, some paper and a couple of pens or pencils.

It’s a fun (staying hopeful here) and frugal way to come up with new ideas to spend time with your significant other.

I’ll update you soon to let you know how the ‘Date Your Spouse Jar’ is going for us.

Wish me luck.

fasting app
Here’s a screenshot of my fasts this week, taken from the Life Fasting app.

Fasting app

I’m trying out a new intermittent fasting app to record my daily fasting schedule. It is called Life Fasting. I’m working on changing up my fasting times and this app helps me stay on track with my goals.

Some people say it’s good to alternate your fasting schedules to avoid unwanted side effects like hair loss.

Do you have a favorite health app?

Have a great weekend everyone! And if you decide to make a Date Your Spouse Jar please keep it fun…I know you will!

Do you have a favorite Instant Pot Recipe to share? Any fun ideas for dating your spouse (that don’t involve cleaning out the garage)?

  1. I’m ashamed to admit I’ve owned my Instant Pot for more than a year (maybe two at this point), and I’ve never once used it. However, I think your post gave me some practical ideas of how I can use it. For example, I hadn’t thought about using it for boiled eggs!
